Welcome to SlackbAsh Linux

Welcome to the SlackbAsh Linux temporary official homepage.
What is SlackbAsh Linux?
SlackbAsh Linux is a project I have been working on – with varying levels of intensity, devotion and success – for a few months now.
SlackbAsh is a full-fledged linux operating system which contains all the functionality and compatibility of a complete Microsoft Windows system. The default SlackbAsh installation will provide the user with light-weight Linux alternatives of all the most common productivity applications (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows Media Player, Acrobat etc) which provide a look and feel that is almost indistinguishable from their Windows counterparts, and in many cases provide even better functionality, power and stability.
Being based on the popular old-school Slackware linux, there is a greater degree of control over the system than other linux ditributions such as Ubuntu and its variants allow. As a wise man once said, “If you want to learn Ubuntu, use Ubuntu. If you want to learn linux, use Slackware.” Or something to that effect. Anyways, take from that what you will…
My aim with SlackbAsh Linux is to create a linux distribution that:
- contains all the functionality and compatibility of any packed-to-the-brim Windows installation.
- runs with minimal systems overheads, meaning you can get by with a much cheaper/older computer.
- is easy to install, so Windows user won’t be reaching for the Valium at the mere thought of it.
- looks clean and minimalist yet still displays a reasonable amount of real-time system information (such as download speed, hard drive space, new email notifications, battery info etc.)
- is highly configurable.
- allows complete control over package installation and configuration: just like Slackware, there is no automated dependency management system. And that’s a good thing, trust me.
More info will be coming shortly, including an (almost) full package listing for the current version.
Please feel free to leave comments – suggestions are even more welcome.
